Sweet Briar Graduate Was Woodsboro Resident

Peggy Crawford Reichard, 67, of Woodsboro and Amherst County, VA, passed away at her residence on Saturday, April 14 after a courageous battle with cancer.

She was the loving wife of William Thomas Reichard for 48 years.

Born February 7, 1945 in Lynchburg, VA, she was the daughter of the late Samuel Henry Crawford and Gladys Coffey Crawford of Amherst.

Peggy was a graduate of Amherst County High School and Sweet Briar College. She was a primary school teacher for many years in schools in Virginia, Ohio and South Carolina.

She was a member of McGregor Presbyterian Church in Columbia, SC and was an ordained Presbyterian Deacon and Elder.

Peggy and her husband were part-time residents of Woodsboro for the past 9 years.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons and a daughter: Jeffrey Thomas Reichard of Woodsboro, Mark Samuel Reichard of Washington, DC, and Melanie Reichard Bennett of Carmel, IN; five grandchildren: Henry Evan (Hal) Reichard, Andrea Hope Reichard, Samuel Irwin Reichard, Madelyn Ann Bennett and Chelsea Elizabeth Bennett.

She was predeceased by her sister, Sammie Jean Crawford Scott.

A funeral service will be conducted 11 am Saturday, April 21 at Macedonia Church in Alto (Coffeytown), VA with burial at Bridge Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Arnold Bradley officiating. Following the service, the family will greet friends at their home 133 Trout Cove Trail in Coffeytown.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a memorial contribution be made in her name to Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Treatment Center, Georgetown University Hospital, 2200 Reservoir Road NW, Washington, DC 20007. Checks may be made payable to MedStar Georgetown University Hospital or MGUH. Donations should be made to the fund ID Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Treatment (58-532670701).
