Obituary for Mr. Robert Lewis Spencer, Jr. Mr. Robert Lewis Spencer, Jr.
U. S. Air Force Veteran Served In Vietnam War

Mr. Robert Lewis Spencer, Jr., age 58, of Covington, Virginia, died Wednesday, May 16, 2012, at his residence.

Mr. Spencer was born May 1, 1954 in Alleghany County, the son of Hortense Ross Spencer and the late Robert Lewis Spencer, Sr.

He served his country as a member of the United States Air Force for twenty-four years, including service during the Vietnam War.

Mr. Spencer also worked at Jackson River Enterprises and enjoyed fishing, gardening, landscaping and the Dallas Cowboys.

He was a member of Pine Street Baptist Church.

In addition to his mother, Hortense Ross Spencer, Mr. Spencer is survived by one son, Korey Goode of Covington; four brothers, Glenn C. Spencer of Covington, Peter R. Spencer of Roanoke, Calvin A. Spencer of Covington, Daniel R. Spencer and wife, Virginia of Portsmouth; one sister, Yolanda Spencer of Covington; two uncles, Lorenzo Ross and Pearson Ross, both of Covington; one aunt, Dorothy Ross of Washington, DC one niece; one nephew; and a number of cousins.

In addition to his father, Robert Lewis Spencer, Sr., Mr. Spencer was preceded in death by four brothers, Edward K. Spencer, Terry Lee Spencer, David Allen Spencer and Gary Wayne Spencer.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 19, 2012, from the chapel of Loving Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Gilliland officiating. Interment will follow in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.

The family will receive friends following the service at Loving Funeral Home and at other times at the residence of Hortense Spencer, 528 E. Dewey Street, Covington.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial tributes be made to Mountain Regional Hospice, P.O. Box 637, Clifton Forge, VA 24422.
