Arna Gladys Deacon, 89, of Lexington, Virginia, went to be with the Lord Monday, May 28, 2012 at Heritage Hall in Lexington.

Born December 25, 1922 in Rockbridge County in the home that she has lived in her entire life, she was a daughter of the late Owen M. Agnor and Lella Wilson Agnor.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of forty-seven years, John T. Deacon.

Arna was a member of the Mt. Horeb Methodist Church, and attended regularly when able. Even though Arna had a disability of blindness, she loved to crochet and shared many afghans with the Effinger Fire Department and P.T.A. for their fundraising. She also gave many to family and friends.

She is survived by one son, Barry Deacon, who has been her caregiver for many years; one sister, Leona Fix, both of Lexington; a special cousin, Loretta Carwell of Eagle Rock.

A graveside service will be conducted 3 p.m. Thursday, May 31, 2012 at Oxford Presbyterian Cemetery with the Rev. Douglas Mitchell officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Horeb Methodist Church, c/o Douglas Mitchell, 2005 Bluegrass Trail, Lexington, VA 24450 or to Rockbridge Area Hospice, P.O. Box 948, Lexington, VA 24450. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory, Lexington, VA.
