Obituary for Wilbur Ray Peters Wilbur Ray Peters
Retired Logger Was Alleghany County Native

Wilbur Ray Peters, 60, of 110 Mount Pleasant Drive, Covington, Virginia, died Thursday, June 7, 2012 at his residence.

He was born November 1, 1951 In Alleghany County, a son of the late Wilbur Franklin and Elvira Collins Peters.

Ray had been a logger in the area for all of his life and was retired from Peters' Logging. He was a member of the Church of God in Altamont. He was an avid Pittsburg Steelers fan.

In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Collins.

Surviving are his wife, Debbie Peters of Covington; one daughter, Roberta Davenport and her husband, Mike of Covington; one son, Ron Smith and his wife, Stacey of Covington; four grandchildren; Skyler Doyle; Tyler Doyle Katie Smith and Chyenne Smith, all of Covington; one brother, Larry Peters and his wife, Birdena of Covington, and numerous aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.

The funeral service was held 2:00 p.m. Monday, June 11, 2012 at the graveside in Mount Pleasant Cemetery with the Rev. Freeman Coffey officiating , assisted by Pastor Shelton Sorrels.

The family will receive their friends one hour to service time at the Arritt Funeral Home on Monday afternoon.

Memorial donations in Ray's name may be made to the Church of God in Altamont.

The Arritt Funeral Home, Covington, Virginia, handled the arrangements.
