World War II Veteran Was Retired Pulp Wood Cutter

Ernest Milton Peters, age 84, died July 7, 2012 at the University Virginia Medical Center, Charlottesville.

He was born September 4, 1927 in Alleghany County, the son of the late Samuel David Peters and Lulu Blanche Andrews.

Mr. Peters worked on farms and cut pulp wood during his lifetime until his retirement.

He was a Veteran of the US Army during World War II, serving in the Pacific and received the Victory medal and Army of Occupation Medal Japan.

Mr. Peters enjoyed hunting, fishing and was an avid gardener.

He was of the Presbyterian faith.

He is survived by a brother, Edward P. Peters and wife, Dianne of Hot Springs; a sister, Maxine Smith and husband, Ira of Covington; a number of nieces and nephews, including two special nieces, Marie Benedict and Carolyn Nicely and a sister-in-law, Mary Peters.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Wilbur Peters, Tommy Peters, Charles Peters, Wilbur David Peters and sisters, Lucille P. Kimberlin, Christine P. Andrews, Mary P. Mann, Lula Virginia Peters, and Frankie D Peters.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday July 10, 2012 at Alleghany Memorial Park with Rev. Garland Humphries officiating. The family will receive friends at the residence of Maxine and Ira Smith 115 Rogers Road, Covington or Edward & Dianne Peters 8301 Jackson River Rd. Hot Springs at any time.
