Obituary for Lillian Overton Nicely Lillian Overton Nicely
Homemaker Was Alleghany County Native

Lillian Overton Nicely, of 4612 Route Forty-Two Road, Clifton Forge, Virginia, died Monday, July 16, 2012 at The Woodlands Health and Rehab Center in Clifton Forge.

She was born on July 30 in the Longdale area of Alleghany County, Virginia to the late Eldon M. and Alma Louise Reynolds Overton.

Throughout her life, she was a homemaker. In her younger years, Lillian and her husband, Earl loved to entertain the area teenagers in their home, playing games, teaching them to swim, as well as hunt, and fish. She loved to sing and play music, and especially to feed the birds, sometimes getting them to light right on her hand. In her later years, she loved taking her brother David for long rides on the back roads looking at wildlife. Her fondest thing to do in life was sharing with her family, friends, and sometimes even strangers.

She will be greatly missed by many, who know she is now in the arms of our Lord.

Lillian was member of Lone Star Advent Christian Church and also attended Immanuel Baptist Church on special occasions.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Everett Nicely in 1971, and a brother, Floyd Overton.

She is survived by two sisters, Almeda Reynolds and husband, Roy, and Dorothy Carter, both of Clifton Forge; a brother, David Overton of Clifton Forge; her nieces and nephews; and many special friends.

A funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, with Reverend John Godfrey officiating.

Interment will follow in Central Advent Christian Cemetery, Clifton Forge. Pallbearers will be Donald T. "Buddy" Kern, Jr., Gary Porterfield, Jonathan Porterfield, Loren Thompson, and Ethan Thompson. The family will receive friends on Wednesday morning from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at Nicely Funeral Home, and other times at the home of her niece, Faye Porterfield, 4115 Sharon Lane, Clifton Forge.

The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to The American Cancer Society, Alleghany Highlands Division, C/O Karen Buzzard, 807 McCormick Boulevard, Clifton Forge, VA 24422 or to the Sharon Volunteer Fire Department, 3910 Longdale Furnace Road, Clifton Forge, VA 24422.
