Retired Homestead Waitress Was Bath County Native

Bernice Sue Marie Washington Church, age 91, formerly of Hot Springs, Virginia, and Scott Hill, Clifton Forge, Virginia, died Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at The Golden Living Center, Clifton Forge.

She was born September 13, 1920 in Bath County, Virginia, to the late Ethel Mae Washington.

She was a retired waitress for The Homestead Hotel and a member of First Baptist Church of Clifton Forge and Piney Grove Baptist Church in Hot Springs.

At First Baptist Church, she was a member of the church missionary board, the Sanctuary Choir, and was a church aide.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by a foster brother, William Burns.

She is survived by her special friend, Sherry Jeffries, and family. A funeral service will be held on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, with Reverend Roslyn Thomas and Reverend Ed Mansfield officiating. Services will conclude at Nicely Funeral Home.

A private interment will follow in Pinehurst Heights Cemetery in Hot Springs. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until time of service at Nicely Funeral Home.
