Well-Known Retired Clifton Forge Minister Was Korean War Veteran

Reverend Boyd C. White, age 83, of 908 Brussels Avenue, Clifton Forge, Virginia, died Friday, August 10, 2012 at The Golden Living Center, Clifton Forge.

He was born April 14, 1929 in Clifton Forge to the late Gordon Charles White and Rosa Peterson White Quarles.

He served in the United States Army during the Korean War and was a retired mechanic from Hercules, Inc. as well as a retired minister for forty years.

He received his Associates Degree in Arts from Virginia Seminary College, his Bachelor Degree in Theology and his Masters Degree in Theology from Anderville Baptist Seminary, became licensed in ministry on February 20, 1970, and was ordained as a minister on June 6, 1971.

He previously served as pastor of Lily of the Valley Church in Fincastle, First Baptist Church in Buchanan, Piney Grove Baptist Church in Hot Springs, and had been the interim pastor for First Baptist Church in Clifton Forge. He was also a member of the Clifton Forge/Covington Ministerial Association and a past member of the Clifton Forge School Board.

His favorite pasttimes included gardening and he was an avid fisherman.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Howard Quarles and a son-in-law, Milton Reid.

He is survived by his wife, June White of Clifton Forge; five children, Larry (Stefanie), Germany, Melanee Reid, Moon Township, PA, Karen (Ronald) Pierce, Waynesboro, VA, Vicki (Thomas) Pleasant, Yorktown, VA, and Bradley (Dorinda), Dayton, OH; grandchildren, Carmon (Mitchell) Reyes, Dionne Reid, Joseph, Keisha, and Corinne Pierce, Brittany, Dominique, Taylor, and Kennedy White, Jessica, Morgan, and Brandi Pleasant; two great grandchildren, Caleb and Conner Reid; and adopted sons, Reverend Sherman Craft and Danny Christian.

A funeral service will be conducted on Monday at 2:00 p.m. in Main Street Baptist Church, Clifton Forge with Reverend Preston Tyler officiating and Reverend Sherman Craft delivering the eulogy. Interment will follow in Red Hill Cemetery, Clifton Forge.

Pallbearers will be deacons, honorary pallbearers will be ministers and flower bearers will be deaconesses attending the service. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge and other times at the residence, 908 Brussels Ave, Clifton Forge, VA.
