Obituary for Sara (Carmen) Hood Drewry Sara (Carmen) Hood Drewry
Former C&O Nurse Worked With The Shoe Box, Volunteered Often

Sara (Carmen) Hood Drewry, age 99, of 849 Acacia Avenue, Clifton Forge, Virginia, died Monday, October 15, 2012 at her residence.

She was born June 1, 1913 in Waxhaw, North Carolina, to the late William Harvey and Lily Hunnicutt Hood.

Mrs. Drewry was a 1933 graduate of the Medical College of Virginia School of Nursing and worked as a registered nurse for a number of years for the Chesapeake and Ohio Hospital and Emmett Memorial Hospital. She also worked for many years with her husband, Howard, at The Shoe Box in Covington.

She served as a docent at The Alleghany Highlands Arts and Crafts Center and was a Red Cross Blood Drive volunteer.

She was a member of Central United Methodist Church in Clifton Forge.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death in 1998 by her husband, Howard Francis Drewry, whom she married in 1941; a brother, Richard Hood; and sisters, Thelma H. Ford and Rosemary Hood.

She is survived by daughters, Frances D. Green and husband, Robert G. of Corolla, NC, and Sara D. Pittman and husband, Jack L. of Marietta, GA; a son, Harvey H. Drewry of Lexington; grandsons, Kevin L. Pittman of Marietta, GA, and Jay W. Green and wife, Laura K. of Centennial, CO; great granddaughters, Malena A. Green and Isla N. Green of Centennial, CO; a brother, W. Belvin Hood of El Paso, TX; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A graveside funeral service will be conducted on Thursday at 2:00 p.m. in Mountain View Cemetery, Clifton Forge with Reverend W. Pembroke Hall officiating. Interment will immediately follow. The family will receive friends Thursday afternoon from 12:30 p.m. until time of service at Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge.

The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to the Children's Hospital Foundation, 2924 Brook Road, Richmond, VA 23220-1298.
