Obituary for Lynwood Griffin Lynwood Griffin
VDOT Retiree Dies At Age 67

Jarrett Lynwood Griffin, age 67, of 4515 McKinney Hollow Road, Clifton Forge, Virginia, passed away Saturday December 15, 2012 at his residence.

He was born October 23, 1945 in Clifton Forge, a son of the late Frank and Pauline Lowry Griffin.

He was a retired operator for the Virginia Department of Transportation with 33 years of service, and a member of the Clifton Forge Moose Lodge.

He loved hunting, fishing and going to shooting matches.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother; Donald Griffin.

Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Shirley Griffin; four daughters, Debora Kern and her husband, Walter of Clifton Forge, Bonita Shifflett of Covington, Suzanne Cross and her husband, Gary of Lynchburg, and Pauline Griffin and her fiance, Steven Vess of Iron Gate; five grandchildren, Brandon Kern, Cameron Kern, Shanna Hartless and her husband, Chris, Tyler Cross, and Nicholas Cross; a sister, Sue Hall of Clifton Forge; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at on Wednesday 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with the Reverend Edith Snedegar and Reverend Grover Nicely officiating. Interment will follow in Sharon Baptist Church Cemetery, Clifton Forge.

Active Pallbearers will beWayne Kincaid, Brandon Kern, Richie Williams, Mickey Downey, John Jeffries, Buddy Hall, Glen Cooper, and Rusty Saville.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Nicely Funeral Home. The family suggests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions in his memory to the Mountain Regional Hospice Volunteers, P.O. Box 637, Clifton Forge, VA 24422.

Lynwood's family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Scott Brown and his staff, as well as the nurses and staff of Mountain Regional Hospice.
