VMI Graduate Was Former Rockbridge County Building Official, Farmers' Market Co-Manager

Eugene Wynne (Gene) Browning, 65, of Natural Bridge, Virginia, died Wednesday December 19, 2012, at his home.

Born March 29, 1947, in Little Rock, Ariz., a son of the late Col. Louis E. Browning M.D. and Helen Virginia Marston Browning.

Gene attended St. Patrick's Catholic Church, graduated from VMI in 1969, and was a veteran of the Vietnam War.

He was president of The Rockbridge Model Engineers Society, president of the Brazos & Pecos Model Railroad, and co-manager of Lexington Farmers Market.

Mr. Browning was also a member of the C&O Historical Society and the Norfolk and Western Historical Society.

Gene was the building official for Rockbridge County from 1992-2002.

Surviving are his wife, Patricia Ann Browning; a sister, Elizabeth "Betty" Maia Browning, of Natural Bridge; brother, Joseph W. Browning, of New Orleans, La.; three nieces; two nephews; and eleven great-nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday, January 18, 2013, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with Father Joseph D'Aurora officiating. Burial will be private.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, January 17, 2013, at Harrison Funeral Home and Crematory, Lexington.

Contributions may be made to Rockbridge Area Hospice, 315 Myers Street, Lexington, VA 24450, or the Episcopal Boys' Home, 414 Boys Home Road, Covington VA 24426.
