Obituary for Clarence William (Clancy) Smith, II Clarence William (Clancy) Smith, II
U.S. Army Veteran Was Helicopter Pilot

Mr. Clarence William (Clancy) Smith, II, age 65, of Covington, Virginia, died Friday, January 18, 2013, at his residence.

He is survived by his wife and the love of his life, Patricia Bradley.

Mr. Smith was born August 27, 1947 in Greenville, SC, the son of the late Clarence William Smith, Sr. and Doris Inabineth Smith.

He served his country a member of the United States Army, where he did four back-to-back tours in Vietnam, two of them as a helicopter pilot and two as a pilot with Air America.

Mr. Smith was a retired warrant officer CW4 with the Army Reserves. He had been employed as an instrument instructor for helicopters in Fort Rucker, AL.

Clancy loved gardening, being in the outdoors, enjoyed music and his pets. He especially enjoyed talking to and getting together with the helicopter pilots he served with in Vietnam.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Smith is survived by one son, Gray Smith of Florida; one brother, Wallace Smith; one sister, Diane Henije, both of Ft. Myers, FL; and two aunts, Annie Maude Smith of Orlando, FL and Martha Snow of South Carolina.

A funeral service will be conducted at 6:00 p.m., Monday, January 21, 2013, from the chapel of Loving Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Gilliland officiating. Interment will be held in Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, FL at 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 25, 2013.

The family suggests that memorial tributes be made to the Alleghany Humane Society, P.O. Box, Low Moor, VA 24457.
