Obituary for David McClellan Brittigan David McClellan Brittigan
Former W&L Media Center Employee Also Was Police Officer

David McClellan Brittigan, 52, of Lexington, Virginia, died at his residence in the Borden Center at Kendal on Thursday, January 24, 2013.

He was preceded in death by his father, Daniel Clark Brittigan, and brother, Robert Stigall Brittigan.

He is survived by his mother, Mary "Betsy" Brittigan, of Lexington; sister and husband, Macy and Dan Coffey, of Lexington; brother and wife, John and Giedra Brittigan of Atlanta, Texas; and two nephews, Brittigan Coffey and Talmadge Coffey, both of Lexington.

He is also survived by his dedicated and faithful caregiver of many years, Pepsii Richardson, of Lexington.

David was born in Lexington, and was a graduate of Lexington High School. He earned his Bachelor of Arts from Hampden Sydney College. He worked in the media center as Washington and Lee University's Leyburn Library for many years before becoming a police officer for the City of Lexington, where he ended his career.

He was a member of Lexington Presbyterian Church.

David resided at The Mayflower for several years before moving to Kendal.

The family appreciates the staff members of The Mayflower, who cared for David, and their compassion for him, and would like to give special thanks to the staff of the Borden Center at Kendal for their tireless attention to David and their endless kindness and support.

There will be a memorial service for David at Kendal at 3 p.m. on Saturday, February 2, 2013, with Dr. William Klein officiating. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Rockbridge Area Hospice, 315 Myers Street Lexington, VA 24450.

Arrangements are being handled by Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory, Lexington.
