Well-Known Clifton Forge Resident Was Longtime Funeral Director

John Richard Mandeville, Sr., age 75, of 1909 Oakwood Drive, Clifton Forge, Virginia, died Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at his residence.

John was born May 13, 1937 in Princeton, West Virginia, to the late Paul Edward and Pauline Wimmer Mandeville.

He married the former Reba Hyatt of Wythe County, and attended West Virginia Business College.

He became a licensed funeral director, retiring from Nicely Funeral Home after thirty-eight years, and was continuing to work there part-time.

He was a member of the Clifton Forge Masonic Lodge # 166 A.F. & A.M., the Kazim Temple, the Hot Springs Shrine (Past President), the Clifton Forge Shrine Club, the Clifton Forge Elks Lodge B.P.O.E., the Griffith Knob Hunt Club (Past President), and former president of the Shenandoah Valley Funeral Directors Association.

He was a long standing member of Central United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the Men's Bible Class and sang in the choir.

He loved wood working and enjoyed sharing his crafts and clocks with friends.

He is survived by his wife, Reba Mandeville of Clifton Forge; his daughter, Theresa Ann Mandeville of Moneta; his son, John Richard Mandeville, Jr. and wife, Joyce of Buchanan; a brother, Marvin Edward Mandeville and wife, Vergie of Lynchburg; a grandson, Matthew Tyler Mandeville; a number of brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and a host of nieces and nephews, including special nephews, Steve Mandeville and Larry Mandeville.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, with Reverend Ned Alderman and Reverend W. Pembroke Hall officiating.

Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Clifton Forge. Pallbearers will be Eddie Clark, Delbert Dudding, Brandon Nicely, J. D. Williams, Charlie Gibson, Earl Anderson, Skip McMullen, Dr. Scott Brown, and Tommy Slusser.

Honorary pallbearers will be Sam Wolfenbarger, Richard Gusler, Kenny Keyser, Elwood Mays, Jim Tennant, Harvey Burns, Herbie Sams, Ronald Wright, Gerald Wood, Timmy Nicely, Glenn Hyatt, Josh Agee, Glenn Jones, and members of the Central United Methodist Church Men's Bible Class.

The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Nicely Funeral Home.
