Bridgewater College Graduate Was Owner, Operator of Charlie's Place

Mrs. Thelma Neil McKee, age 87, of Covington, died Wednesday, July 24, 2013.

She was the wife of the late Charles Hope McKee.

Mrs. McKee was born May 31, 1926 in Covington, Virginia, the daughter of the late Robert Gratten Neil, Sr. and Lillian Jackson Neil.P> She was a graduate of Covington High School, and had a degree in Business Management from Bridgewater College.

Thelma also attended Dabney S. Lancaster Community College and was a certified nursing assistant.

During her career, Mrs. McKee had worked as a counselor at Virginia State Travel, as a substitute teacher and was the owner/operator of the former Charlie's Place.

Thelma was a past member of the Business and Professional Women Association. She enjoyed traveling, spending twenty winters as snowbirds in Florida. Thelma also volunteered at the hospital for thirty years as well as at the Red Cross and Salvation Army.

Mrs. McKee was a member of First Presbyterian Church.

Mrs. McKee is survived by two sons, Charles Neil McKee of Jacksonville, Fl, and Stephen Lewis McKee and wife, Sharon of Clifton Forge; four grandchildren, Bradley McKee, Dustin McKee, Brittany McKee and Courtney Mays and husband, Matt; one great grandson, Seth Ryan McKee; one great granddaughter, Chelsea Mays; and her caregiver, Mary Westbury.

In addition to her parents, and husband, Mrs. McKee was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Chelsea McKee and a brother, Robert G. Neil, Jr.

A graveside service was conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 27, 2013 at Alleghany Memorial Park.

The family received friends on Friday evening from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. at Loving Funeral Home.

The family suggests that memorial tributes be made to the Alleghany Humane Society, P.O. Box 60, Low Moor, VA 24457.
