Well-Known Buena Vista Mechanic Was World War II Veteran

Frank Evan Butner, born on December 25, 1918, passed away on Monday, August 19, 2013, at the age of 94.

The son of William E. and Mary Alice Butner, he was born and raised on his beloved family farm in East Bend, N.C.

Frank married the love of his life, Evelyn Claytor, in 1943, and they built a home and life together in her hometown of Buena Vista, Virginia.

There he established himself as a skilled and well-known mechanic who never met a stranger.

He was predeceased by his beloved Evelyn, and is survived by his loving and devoted sons, Lynwood (Beth) of Chesterfield, and Tim (Katrina) of Buena Vista; as well as his grandsons, Jonathan and Clay, of Richmond.

Frank was a veteran of World War II.

He also was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church.

He lived his life by "The Golden Rule" and had a remarkable memory of dates and events which produced many wonderful stories he enjoyed sharing with his family and friends. His legacy will remain an integral part of many lives.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 21, 2013, at Bolling, Grose & Lotts Funeral Home with the Rev. John Choi officiating. Burial will be private at the Green Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to St. John's UMC or a charity of your choice.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, August 20, 2013, at the Bolling, Grose & Lotts Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Buena Vista, Va., 540-261-5510.
