World War II Veteran Was MeadWestvaco Retiree, Founding Member Of New Hope Baptist Church

Harold Willis Crawford, 87, of Covington, Virginia, died Saturday, September 28, 2013.

Mr. Crawford was born February 17, 1926, in Craig County, a son of the late Charles and Emma Adams Crawford.

He was a veteran of World War II with the US Navy and was a longtime member of Curtis A. Smith Post #1033, Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He retired in 1991 from MeadWestvaco in Covington after 48 years with the company.

He was a founding member of the New Hope Baptist Church in Covington, where he has served as a Trustee and Deacon.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lorene Bush Crawford in 1989, and also by three brothers and one sister.

Surviving are his son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Meg Crawford of Covington; three daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa and Danny Morrow of Campobello, SC, Christy and Allen Johnson of Chester and Cynthia and Tony Scialoia of Covington; seven grandchildren, Adona Baker, Matt Crawford, Travis Crawford, Luke Crawford and Garrett Crawford, all of Covington, Missi Pryor of Campobello, SC and Danielle Murray of Inman, SC; seven great grandchildren; two Brothers, Jake Crawford of Covington, Denny Crawford of Madison, WI; two Sisters, Phyllis Porter of Mauldin, SC and Frances Brouse of Sanford, NC, and a number of nieces and nephews.

The family received their friends Monday evening from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. at Arritt Funeral Home.

Interment was made in the Persinger Memorial Cemetery with graveside rites by Curtis A. Smith Post #1033, Veterans of Foreign Wars.

The funeral service was held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, October 1, 2013, in the Chapel of Arritt Funeral Home in Covington with the Rev. Bill Gilliland officiating, assisted by the Rev. Bill Kelly.

The family suggests that donations in Mr. Crawford's name be made to the New Hope Baptist Church, 1403 S. Dee St., Covington, VA 24426
