Parkway Wesleyan Church Member Dies At Age 72

Alice Lorraine Deisher Burks, 72 of 211 Oak Ridge Court, Blue Ridge, Virginia, and formerly of Covington, Virginia, died Friday, November 8, 2013 at her residence.

She was born December 30, 1940 in Iron Gate, Virginia, to the late Eldee Harrison and Agnes Rebecca Terry Deisher.

She was a member of the Parkway Wesleyan Church, she loved kids, especially her cherished grandchildren, and she also enjoyed gardening.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Ann Johnson, and a brother, Lewis Lee Deisher.

She is survived by her husband of forty-five years, Leonard Watts Burks; two daughters, Melissa "Lisa" Burks Carr and husband, Sammy of Rich Patch, Covington, and Lora Burks Bess and husband, Steve of Blue Ridge; one sister, Peggy Carter of Lexington; two brothers, Gene Deisher of Iron Gate and Richard Deisher and wife, Evelyn of Galax; three grandchildren, Amanda Carr-Dunbar, Cory Bess, and Emily Bess; one great-granddaughter, Autumn Dunbar, and a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, November 12 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, Virginia, with Reverend Bruce Burks officiating. Interment will follow at the Central Advent Christian Cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Nicely Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Amanda Carr-Dunbar, Eddie Dunbar, Joey Carter, E.B. Carter, Joey Burks, Shane Wolfe, Jeff McCoy, Chris Ayers and Josiah Burks.

The family suggests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions to Parkway Wesleyan Church, 3645 Orange Ave. NE, Roanoke Va. 24012 or The Oak Hill Bible Church, 1601 Chestnut Street, Clifton Forge, Va. 24422.
