Mrs. Staton was employed with the Rockbridge County School Board Office for 43 years as Title I Secretary, while also working at the Lexington Walmart for 10 years.

Judy had many interests and hobbies throughout the years, but what she valued most were family and compassion. Even through the most difficult and trying of times, she was able to crack a joke and maintain her sense of humor. She was the embodiment of strength and perseverance and had a bright light that radiated warmth and generosity to everyone she met.

Mrs. Staton is survived by two sons, Chad Ruley and Billy Staton of Rockbridge Baths; three daughters, Dianna Ruley Brice and her husband, Corrie of Lawton, OK; Sharon Staton Covington and her husband, David of Stuarts Draft; and Jessica Staton of Rockbridge Baths; two grandchildren, Victoria and Alexander Brice; a niece, Tammy Coffer, and a nephew, Jamie Tyree. Mrs. Staton is also survived by numerous close and special members of the Clark and Tyree families.

The family wishes to express sincere thanks to Dr. H. Lynn Moore, the staff at UVA MICU, and the ALS Clinic at UVA for the care given to Mrs. Staton during her illness. She fought a hard battle against ALS with the same grace, determination and dignity with which she lived her life.

Mrs. Staton's children will receive friends and family at the family home located at 4725 Maury River Road, Rockbridge Baths, for an informal celebration and remembrance of Judy's life on Saturday, November 23, 2013 from noon until 3 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the ALS Association DC/MD/VA Chapter, 7507 Standish Place, Rockville, MD 20855.
