Obituary for Julian Hockman Burns, Jr. Julian Hockman Burns, Jr.
U.S. Army Vietnam Veteran Was Retired Truck Driver

Mr. Julian Hockman Burns, Jr., age 67, of Covington, Virginia, died Monday, February 3, 2014, at his residence.

He was the husband of Linda Pullen Burns.

Mr. Burns was born July 8, 1946 in Monterey, the son of the late Julian H. Burns, Sr. and Opal Rexrode Burns.

He served his country as a member of the United States Army during Vietnam.

Julian was employed as a truck driver by Edwards before his retirement.

He was a member of Falling Spring Presbyterian Church.

Julian was also a member of the Staunton-Augusta VFW Post 2216 and was very active in the League of Older Americans.

Mr. Burns loved to bake and cook.

A people person, Julian never met a stranger and especially loved his companions, Molly and Buttons.

In addition to his wife of forty-eight years, Mr. Burns is survived by one son, David W. Burns and fiancee, Shawna Berry; one daughter, Julie Burns and fiance, Michael Stephenson; four grandchildren, Christopher Stephenson and wife, Candace, Cody Stephenson, David Berry, and Christopher Berry; one great grandchild, Willow Berry; three brothers, Emory Thomas Burns of Staunton, Steven Ray Burns of McDowell, and Pete Burns of Staunton; one sister, Beverly Keyser of Hot Springs; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Burns was preceded in death by one brother, Donald Lee Burns.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 7, 2014, from the chapel of Loving Funeral Home with the Rev. Jim Slade officiating. Interment will follow in Falling Spring Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

Graveside rites will be conducted by the Curtis A. Smith Post 1033 Veterans of Foreign Wars.

The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. at Loving Funeral Home.

The family suggests that memorial donations be made to Linda Burns to assist with funeral expenses.
