Talented Seamstress Was Lexington Native

Barrie Booze Canode, 72, of Covington, Virginia, passed away Friday, April 11, 2014 at her residence.

Barrie was born October 2, 1941 in Lexington, Virginia, the daughter of the late John Preston Booze, Jr., and Mary Ellen Kern Booze.

Barrie, a graduate of Clifton Forge High School and Fort Lauderdale Business School, was formerly employed as a supervisor at the Jane Colby Sewing Plant in Clifton Forge and was an instructor at Leonard's School of Beauty, also in Clifton Forge.

She loved sewing and was a talented seamstress and quilter.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by an infant son, a sister, Peggy Booze Powell, and a brother, Aubrey Gene Booze.

She is survived by her husband, Raymond Wilson Canode, whom she married January 5, 1968; two daughters, Toni Jackson of Covington and Carrie Downey of Covington; "her boys", Patrick Jackson of Covington and Dwayne Downey of Covington; two brothers, John P. Booze III and wife, Laura of Clifton Forge, Steven W. Booze and wife, Joy of Covington; four sisters, Robbie Patterson and husband, John Wayne of Keyser, West Virginia, Nancy B. Simmons and husband, Charles of Iron Gate, Janice Mundy and husband, Donald of Halifax, and June Tucker of Covington; a sister in law, Irene Booze of Clifton Forge; very dear friends, Mary Sue and Joe Fox of Covington, Joyce Fisher of New Castle, and Betty Bell of Covington; a special niece, Nicole Simmons, who spent many hours with Barrie during her illness, and several other nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

The funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Monday, April 14, 2014 from the chapel at Loving Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Gilliland officiating. The Interment will follow at the Huffman Family Cemetery in New Castle, Virginia.

Active Pallbearers will be Craig Booze, Kevin Booze, Mariellen Booze, Charlie Simmons, John Simmons, Ronnie Strickler. Alternate pallbearers will be Mike Booze and Chris Tucker.

The family received friends on Sunday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Loving Funeral Home.
