Former U. S. Navy Employee Helped Run Successful Turpin's Outdoor Power Equipment Business

Lucy T. Turpin, 90, of Lexington, Virginia, died on Sunday, April 13, 2014, at Kendal.

She was preceded in death by both her parents, Harry and Maude Thomas; and her husband, William.

Lucy T. Turpin was born on October 1, 1923. She worked for the United States Navy during the war years and went on to run a successful family business called Turpin's Outdoor Power Equipment with her late husband, William V. Turpin.

She is survived by two children, Linda T. Frece, of Bristow, Va., and Warren V. Turpin and his wife, Lisa Turpin, of Lexington; three grandchildren, Christianne V. VanDyke and her husband, Joshua J. VanDyke, of Bristow, and Ryan V. Turpin and Brett E. Turpin, of Lexington. She was the great-grandmother to Victoria and Caitlyn VanDyke of Bristow. She is also survived by two sisters, Verlie Callahan, and Elene Greeson and her husband, Charles.

The family will receive friends beginning at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 18, 2014, with the funeral service following at 11 a.m. at Harrison Funeral Home.

Lucy T. will be buried next to her husband at Rockbridge Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to Hoofbeats Therapeutic Riding Center, Inc., P. O. Box 979, Lexington, VA 24450.
