World War II U. S. Navy Veteran Worked With Hercules, Westvaco

Mr. Harry Lee Stinespring, Jr., age 86, of Covington, Virginia, passed away at his home Wednesday, May 14, 2014, surrounded by his family.

He was the husband of Annie Bess Stinespring.

Mr. Stinespring was born October 21, 1927 in Covington, the son of the late Harry Lee Stinespring, Sr. and Mary Hill Stinespring.

A lifetime resident of this community, Harry served his country as a member of the United States Navy during World War II.

Mr. Stinespring was a former employee of Hercules for twenty-three years and retired from Westvaco after twelve years service in Quality Control.

He was a member of McAllister Memorial Presbyterian Church. During his church life, he had served as a Chairman of Trustees, served on the Finance Committee, on the Pastor-Parrish Relations Committee, and was a member of the Men's Club as well as serving in numerous other capacities.

Harry was an American Red Cross Donor.

He enjoyed gardening especially working with his roses.

An avid sports fan, Mr. Stinespring loved to watch the Covington Cougars, the University of Virginia Cavaliers, the Washington Redskins and the New York Yankees. Most of all, Harry enjoyed being with his family especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Stinespring is survived by one daughter, June Anne Cooke and husband, Ricky of Covington; two grandchildren, Christy Cooke Kinsey and husband, Ronnie and Stan Cooke and wife, Brooklyn; two great grandchildren, Rachael S. Kinsey and Mason K. Kinsey; one brother, Robert Stinespring of Danville; two sisters, Zula Tingler and Betty Wilkerson, both of Covington; two sisters-in-law, Lucille Kemper and Mae Tingler; a number of nieces and nephews; and special caregivers, Kristen, Patsy and Connie.

A funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, May 17, 2014 at McAllister Memorial Presbyterian Church with Rev. Michael Fleenor officiating, assisted by Rev. Doug Hollenbeck. Interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park.

Graveside rites by Curtis A. Smith Post 1033 Veterans of Foreign Wars.

The family received friends on Friday evening from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. at Loving Funeral Home.
