A&P Grocery Store Retiree Was Selma Church Of The Brethren Member

Mr. Robert Lee Smith, age 86, of Covington, Virginia, died Saturday, May 17, 2014, at the residence of his son in Roanoke.

He was the husband of the late Violet Jones Smith.

Mr. Smith was born June 28, 1927 in Clifton Forge, the son of the late Curtis Alexander Smith and Ruth Smith Smith.

He served his country as a member of the United States Army, where he was stationed in Germany.

A lifetime resident of this area, Robert was employed by the A&P Grocery Store, retiring in 1989 with over thirty years of service.

He was a member of the Selma Church of the Brethren.

Mr. Smith is survived by one son, Lyndon Edward Smith and wife, Brenda of Roanoke; two daughters, Roberta Leigh Smith of Plainfield, NJ and Jessica S. Brown of Roanoke; three granddaughters, Aneita C. Smith, Samantha D. Key and Amie D. Smith; one great granddaughter, Makayla Key; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Smith was preceded in death by one brother, Curtis Alexander Smith and two sisters, Frances Smith Mays and Katherine Smith Miller.

A graveside service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, May 22, 2014, at Alleghany Memorial Park with Rev. Gary Marshall officiating.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 7:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at Loving Funeral Home.
