Obituary for James Willis Buchanan James Willis Buchanan
Retired Electrician Served On USS Franklin Roosevelt

James Willis Buchanan (Jimmy, Buck, Paw Paw), 75, of 1315 Dee Street, Covington, Virginia, died Friday, May 30, 2014 at his residence.

He was born on September 10, 1938 in Clifton Forge, Virginia, a son of the late Murray Frank and Margaret Elizabeth Scott Buchanan.

He was a retired electrician working for the Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad. He completed a 4 year apprenticeship program and later worked for Meade Westvaco as an electrician.

He was a member of the Westvaco Retirees Association.

Jimmy loved his God, family and country and was a member of the American Legion.

He was a devoted and loving paw paw.

He was very proud to have served his country from 1958 until 1962 as a seaman in the United States Navy aboard the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt.

He is survived by two daughters, Eva Mae Whitehead and husband, Preston of Covington and Kimberly Reid Schutte and husband, Ron of Nitro, West Virginia; 5 grandchildren, Ashley Lynne Foscoe, James Christopher Foscoe and fiancee, Brittany Flint, Mikayla Grace Reid, Danielle Renee Grubb and Sarah Nicole Witt and husband, Steven; three great grandchildren, Christopher Patrick Witt, Hayleigh Noelle Witt and Abigail Elizabeth Grubb; a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by brothers, Murray F. Buchanan, Jr. "Bubbie" and David B. Buchanan "Dickie" and by a sister, Barbara Gibson.

A funeral service will be conducted on Tuesday morning at 11:00 a.m. from the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home in Clifton Forge with Rev. Bill Gilliland and Mr. Buddy Buchanan officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery with military rites conducted by Burnside-Carpenter Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4299.

Active Pallbearers will be David Buchanan, Bobby Buchanan, Michael Buchanan, Bill Whitt, Bill Loving and Jamie Foscoe. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Nicely Funeral Home and friends may call any time at the residence of Eva and Preston Whitehead, 2032 South Arden Ave., Covington.
