Obituary for Mildred McElwee Lowry Mildred McElwee Lowry
Former Industrial Rayon Employee Was Falling Spring Presbyterian Church Member

Mildred McElwee Lowry, 87, of 6518 Indian Draft Road, Covington, Virginia, died Sunday, June 22, 2014, at Lewis Gale Ð Alleghany Hospital in Low Moor.

Mrs. Lowry was born November 14, 1926, at Hot Springs, a daughter of the late Ollie and Lora Bell Perry McElwee.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Quentin Lowry, in 2005; a son, Kenneth Lowry; two brothers, Gratton McElwee and Welford McElwee and three sisters, Sadie Lee Burns, Emma Lois Burns and Maxine Shinault.

She retired as a machine operator from the former Industrial Rayon Corp plant in Covington.

She was a longtime member of the Falling Spring Presbyterian Church and was a charter member of the Falling Spring Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, where she served as treasurer.

Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Bill and Patricia Lowry of Millboro and Dale and Dolly Lowry of Covington; five grandchildren, Dale Lowry, Jr., and Holly Blackburn of Covington, Anthony Lowry and his fiance, Nikki Smith, of Covington, David Hodge and Nicole Neil of Craigsville, Misty Lowry of Millboro and Kelly Grant and husband, Thomas of Hinesville GA; one great granddaughter, Madison Lowry of Covington; one brother, Winfred McElwee of Hot Springs, one sister-in-law, Jean Fuller of Overland Park KS, and a number of nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. in the Arritt Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jim Slate.

Interment will be made in the Falling Spring Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

The family will receive their friends Tuesday evening from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. at Arritt Funeral Home.

The family suggests that donations in Mrs. Lowry's name be made to the Falling Spring Fire Department and Rescue Squad, P. O. Box 880; Covington, VA 24426 or to the Millboro Fire Department, 770 Millboro Road, Millboro, Va 24460.
