Obituary for Raymond (Barney) Edward Hayslett Raymond (Barney) Edward Hayslett
Longtime Local Educator Dies At Age 82

Mr. Raymond (Barney) Edward Hayslett, age 82, of Covington, Virginia, died Monday, July 14, 2014, at LewisGale Hospital-Alleghany, Low Moor.

Mr. Hayslett was born September 24, 1931 in Alleghany County, the son of the late Adolphus Vernon Hayslett and Nancy Hostetter Hayslett.

A lifetime educator, Barney taught in the Covington School System at both Covington High School and Jeter Watson Elementary School before retiring from the Alleghany County School System. He previously taught at both Boiling Spring Elementary School and Callaghan Elementary School.

Mr. Hayslett is survived by two sisters, Nancy H. Meadows and husband, Gene and Lindy Morris, both of Covington; two sisters-in-law, Jenny Hayslett and Etha Hayslett; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Hayslett was preceded in death by five brothers, Adolphus Augustus Hayslett, James "Jim" E. Hayslett, Ellis F. Hayslett, Richard Hayslett and Robert Vernon Hayslett; and one sister, Elsie H. Kirby.

A funeral service was conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday, July 18, 2014, from the chapel of Loving Funeral Home with Rev. Lynn Wright officiating. Interment followed in Fletcher Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers were his nephews.

The family received friends Thursday evening at Loving Funeral Home.
