Paint Bank Native Dies In Forest At The Age Of 88

Mary Marshall Martin Arritt, 88, of Forest, Virginia, formerly of Covington, died July 21, 2014.

Mrs. Arritt was born June 11, 1926 in Paint Bank, VA, a daughter of the late Fred and Willie Garten Martin.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, H. Lee Arritt Sr. in 1994; two sons, Jeffrey Carl Arritt in 1966 and Fred Calvin Arritt in 1986; three brothers, Hampton Martin, Haynes Martin, and James Fisher.

She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, and she was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church of Covington.

She is survived by five daughters: Karen Hobbs and Randall of Roanoke Rapids, NC, Mary Lee Cabell and Arthur of Concord, VA, Eva Smith and Carl of Lynchburg, Patricia Moore and Charles of Lynchburg, Kathy Humphries and Steve of Covington; one son, H. Lee Arritt Jr. and Donna of Blue Ridge; 14 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren; two nephews, David L. Arritt and Betsy and Chipper Arritt and Linda, both of Covington; a niece, Michelle Chandler of Burnsville, NC., a special friend, Jerry Humphreys of Covington, and a number of caregivers: Jean Hall, Kim Pugh, Sylvia Rose, Wendy Blanks, Debbie Johnson, Kelly Whitt, Joan Ferrell, and Anna Flowers.

A graveside service will be held Friday July 25, 2014 at Cedar Hill Cemetery at 12:00 p.m. with the Rev. Becky Cloud officiating.

The family will receive friends Friday from 10:30 untill11:30 at the Arritt Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, Keith Carter, Phillip Carter, Bryan Carter, Will Smith, Josh Smith, and Zachary Humphries.
