James Arnold Lawrence Givens, 88, formerly of Covington, Virginia, died Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at Mechanicsville.

He was born March 3, 1929 in Greenbrier County, West Virginia, a son of the late Lawrence and Sara Mars Givens.

Mr. Givens retired as a truck driver with VDOT.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Lucille Wright Givens in 2006; two daughters, Cathy Dunkum and Doris Gail Givens; a grandson, Aaron Chandler, and also by one brother and one sister.

Surviving are two daughters, Deborah Washington of Aylett and Frances Smith and her husband James, all of New Kent; two sons, James Gives, Jr. of Richmond and Shawn Givens of Reidsville; 11 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Saturday August 23, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. in the Arritt Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Lynn Wright officiating.

The interment will be made in Lone Star Cemetery.

The family will receive their friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at the Arritt Funeral Home.
