World War II Coast Guard Veteran Was Retired CSX Terminal Trainmaster

Charlie David Keller, age 90, of 1023 Acacia Street, Clifton Forge, Virginia, died Monday, October 6, 2014 at LewisGale Hospital - Alleghany in Low Moor.

Charlie was born February 2, 1924 in Ironton, Ohio, to the late Ross Talbott Keller and Lyde Smith Keller.

He attended grade school in Russell, Kentucky, graduated from High School in Fort Thomas, KY, and was a graduate of the University of Kentucky.

He served in the United States Coast Guard during World War II and was a retired Terminal Trainmaster for CSX Transportation of Hinton.

Charlie was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Russell, KY and an avid Kentucky Wildcat fan. He was also a member of Clifton Forge Baptist Church, where he belonged to the Men's Sunday School Class.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margeret "Tippy" Keller; a son, Thomas "Tommy" Keller; and his special friend, Susie Mays.

He is survived by a daughter, Deborah Blackburn and her husband, Tim of Clifton Forge; a step son, Billy Maydian and his friend, Linda Quinn of Christiansburg; a daughter-in-law, Maria Keller of Baltimore, MD; seven grandchildren, Timothy "Tad" Blackburn and his wife, Beth of Richmond, Thomas "Andy" Blackburn and his wife, Dawn of Elon, Jonothan Blackburn of Midlothian, Keller Blackburn of Clifton Forge, Ross Keller of Baltimore, MD, Tara Scott, and Darren Maydian; nine great grandchildren, Katie, Emma, Thomas, Isaac, Jenny, Calab, Kaylie, Riley, and Carter; and his good friends, Barbara Keller, and members of the Sutton family.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 9, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Reverend Doug Moore officiating. Following the funeral service, his body will be cremated. The family will visit with friends on Thursday from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at Nicely Funeral Home.
