Obituary for William Mackensen Dressler, Sr. William Mackensen Dressler, Sr.
Former Owner Of Dressler Motors Dies At Age 99

William Mackensen Dressler, Sr., 99, of 604 Dolly Ann Drive, Covington, Virginia, died Wednesday, February 4, 2015 at Lewis Gale Medical Center in Salem.

He was born June 13, 1915 in Alleghany County, the son of the late Rufus O. Dressler and Minnie Stoup Dressler Landis.

Mr. Dressler was the retired owner of the former Dressler Motors Inc. automobile dealership in Covington.

He was a member of Trinity Baptist and later attended Edgemont Presbyterian Church.

Mr. Dressler was a member of the Covington Lions Club, where he had served as President and International Delegate; Covington Lodge #610,Loyal Order of Moose; Clifton Forge Elks Lodge; Life Member and past Commander of the Curtis A. Smith Post #1033, Veterans of Foreign Wars; American Legion Post #4; the 1st Armored Division Association; the Anzio Beachhead Veterans Association; Virginia Automobile Dealers Association , National Automobile Dealers Association and was the Founding Director and Treasurer of the South Atlantic Dodge Dealers Advertising Association.

He had been active in the Covington and Clifton Forge Industrial Development Association, the former Covington Retail Merchant's Association and the Salvation Army Advisory Board.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sallie Thurston Dressler, in 2000; five sisters, Nettie Campbell, Ida Harris, Blanche Burley, Charlotte Keyser, and Francis Sprouse; and two brothers, Carl Warren Dressler and Paul Dressler.

Surviving are two daughters, Sandra Carter and husband, Currie, of Richmond and Linda Walls and husband, Charles, of Chesterfield; one son, William "Bill" Dressler, Jr., and his wife, Patricia, of Covington; three grandchildren, Walter Russel Curfman III of Hamilton, William M "Trey" Dressler, III and wife, Susan, of Birmingham, AL, and Ethan Mcdowell Dressler of Roanoke; two great grandchildren Anna Loren Germano and Emme Douglas Dressler of Birmingham, AL; one brother, Clyde H. Landis Sr. and his wife, Sadie, of Covington; one sister, Evelyn "Tillie" Agnor of Tampa, FL; a number of nieces and nephews, and a special friend and neighbor, Ruth M. Watts and friend, Jeffrey Lynn Ellison.

The funeral service will be held Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at the Edgemont ARP Church with the Rev. Donnie Bowker officiating assisted by Currie Carter.

The family will receive their friends Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the chapel of Arritt Funeral Home and at other times at the residence, 604 East Dolly Ann Drive.

The family suggests that donations in Mr. Dressler's name may be made to the Covington Salvation Army or to the Wounded Warriors Foundation.
