Longtime Longdale United Methodist Church Member Worked With Jane Colby As An Inspector

Edith Marie Williams Nicely Armstrong, age 90, of 5115 Longdale Furnace Road, Clifton Forge, Virginia, died Tuesday, February 10, 2015 at The Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation Center in Low Moor.

She was born July 31, 1924 in Rockbridge County to the late Henry Lee and Bettie Emma Smith Williams.

She was an inspector for fifteen years with Jane Colby and also Green Thumb for Douthat State Park.

She was a member of Longdale United Methodist Church for over 40 years and served there as a Sunday School teacher for 33 years. She was also a member of the Women's Circle, the Adult Sunday School Class and the Church Choir.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Allen Lee Nicely, and her second husband, Palmer Eugene Armstrong; 3 sisters, and 7 brothers.

She is survived by four sons, Danny L. Nicely and wife, Kay of Springfield, MA, Dwight E. Nicely and wife, Maggie of Farmville, Ricky A. Nicely of Richmond, and Robert A. Nicely of Clifton Forge; thirteen grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; 6 great great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, February 16, 2015 at 12:00 p.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home with Reverend Lester Kennedy officiating. Interment will follow in Central Advent Christian Cemetery, Clifton Forge.

Mrs. Armstrong's grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends on Monday morning, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at Nicely Funeral Home.

The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to the Longdale United Methodist Church Building Fund, P. O. Box 190, Iron Gate, VA 24448.
