Former Covington Resident Dies In Salem At Age 85

Mrs. Eleanor L. Ergenbright, 85, formerly of Covington, VA, passed away at her home in Salem, Virginia, on Sunday, February 15, 2015 after an extended illness of three years with her son, Greg Ergenbright close by.

She was married to the late Hollis L. Ergenbright of Covington, Virginia, who died in November of 1988.

She was born January 4, 1930 in Covington, a daughter of the late E. Russell Lawrence and the late S. Lillian Maxwell Lawrence.

She attended Emmanuel Episcopal Church as a child and always considered it her home church. She later attended Christ Church in Roanoke.

Mrs. Ergenbright held many secretarial jobs during her career and retired from Atlantic Companies of Roanoke in 1995.

Mrs. Ergenbright was a devoted mother and doting grandmother. She loved life and spending time with her family and close friends.

Mrs. Ergenbright is survived by her son, Greg L. Ergenbright and daughter-in-law, Jennifer W. Ergenbright of Montgomery, Alabama, and their children: Derek (and wife, Kirsten), Anna, and Hayden; sister, Sarah L. Burch of Richmond; nieces, Pat Campbell of Lynchburg, Virginia, and husband, Gene, Sharon Clarke of Richmond, Virginia, and husband, Tom, Kara Reinertsen of Ashburn, Virginia, and husband, John, Midgie Ergenbright of Winston Salem, North Carolina; nephews, Stephen Lawrence of Fairfax Station, Virginia, and wife, Joyce; David "Jack" Burch of Harrisonburg, Virginia, and wife, Donna and Robert Lawrence of Ashburn Virginia, and wife, Cindy; many cherished great-nieces and great-nephews, especially Melissa Coalson, who helped Pat Campbell with Eleanor's care over the past 3 years and enjoyed a very special relationship; loving in-laws of the Walters family: Nancy, Jeff, Tammy, Dillon, Greg, Revonda and Eric and Kim Wasil; and close friends, Jeri Overstreet, Wanda Woodyard, Nancy Fisher, Mildred Watts, Mildred McCabe, Mary Frances Drumheller, Barbara Krol, Agnes Hall and Sharon & Randy Lyle.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Ergenbright was also preceded in death by her brother, Jack Lawrence; sister, Betty Sibley; nephew, Mark Sibley; great nephew, Christopher Reinertsen; and special in-laws Glenn Walters and Joseph Walters.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 21, 2015 at Emmanuel Episcopal Church with the Dr. Robert T. Copenhaver officiating. Interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Derek Ergenbright, Hayden Ergenbright, Jeff Walters, Greg Walters, Dillon Walters, John Reinertsen, Randy Lyle, Brian Coalson, and Jason Burch. Honorary pallbearer will be Pat Loving.

The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. at Loving Funeral Home.

The family suggests that memorial tributes in Mrs. Ergenbright's name be made to a charity of your choice.
