Obituary for Joyce Rhodes Potter Joyce Rhodes Potter
Former ARH Emergency Room Employee Was Covington Native

Mrs. Joyce Rhodes Potter, age 77, of Covington, Virginia, died Friday, February 27, 2015, at LewisGale Medical Center, Salem, VA.

She was the wife of Ronald Leroy Potter, Sr.

Mrs. Potter was born April 11, 1937 in Covington, the daughter of the late Joseph William Rhodes, Sr. and Irene Doss Rhodes.

She was a certified nursing assistant, working in the emergency room at the former Alleghany Regional Hospital before retiring from Home Health.

Mrs. Potter was a member of Faith Baptist Church.

Joyce enjoyed spending time with her toy Chihuahua, Sophie, working word search puzzles, and watching reruns of Little House on the Prairie and the Walton's. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family and friends.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Potter is survived by two daughters, Robin Potter Duncan and Julie Potter Lawson and husband, Wayne; five grandchildren, Amy Austin Dunham and husband, Danny of Staunton, John Travis Lawson of Covington, Emily Lawson Bennett and husband, Chad of Knoxville, TN and Kelly Lawson May and husband, Austin of Norfolk, and Afton Chase Potter; one great granddaughter, Kaitlee Rahne Dunham; one brother, Joseph William "Joe" Rhodes, Jr. and wife, Betty of Roanoke; one sister, Joanne Rhodes Hodges and husband, Joe of Staunton; very special longtime friend, Betty Miller; and close friends, Linda Burns and Joann All.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Potter was preceded in death by a son, Ronald Leroy "Ronnie" Potter, Jr. and a brother, Charles William "Archie" Rhodes.

In accordance with her wishes, Joyce was cremated and a memorial service will be held at a later date.

The family suggests that memorial donations be made to Faith Baptist Church, 311 Jackson Drive, Covington, VA 24426. Arrangements are being handled by Loving Funeral Home; www.lovingfuneralhome1913.com.
