Obituary for Dorothy Lawhorn Rhodes Dorothy Lawhorn Rhodes
Calvary Christian Church Member Was Rockbridge County Native

Mrs. Dorothy Lawhorn Rhodes, age 92, of Covington, Virginia, died February 28, 2015, at the Woodlands Health and Rehabilitation, Clifton Forge.

She was the wife of the late Henry C. Rhodes, Sr., who preceded her in death in 1983.

Mrs. Rhodes was born February 28, 1923 in Rockbridge County, the daughter of the late William Walker Lawhorn and Lucinda Wilmer Lawhorn.

A lifetime resident of this community, she had been employed as a salesclerk by Stegar Pharmacy and Leggett's Department Store.

Dorothy was a member of Calvary Christian Church.

She was a longtime volunteer at Alleghany Regional Hospital.

Mrs. Rhodes is survived by one son, H.C. Rhodes, Jr. and wife, Melody of Covington; one daughter, Janey R. Linkenhoker and husband, Lewis of Clifton Forge; three grandchildren, Lewis Allen Linkenhoker, Jr. and wife, Tracey, Elizabeth Marie Gardner and husband, Ernest and Christopher Lee Linkenhoker; four great grandchildren, Dustin Linkenhoker, Conner Linkenhoker, Philip Linkenhoker and Lewis A. Linkenhoker, III; and favorite son, James R. "Cheeze" Smith.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Rhodes was preceded in death by one daughter, Judy R. Craft, eleven siblings, and was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 3, 2015, from the chapel of Loving Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Warren officiating. Interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Lewis Linkenhoker, Sr., Lewis Linkenhoker, Jr., Ernest Gardner, Christopher Linkenhoker, James R. Smith and Pat Loving. Honorary pallbearers will be Durwin Waddell, Gary Whitehead, Mike Mayo, Lewie Wood, and Clinton Phillips.

The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 5:30 - 7:00 p.m. at Loving Funeral Home and at other times at the residence, 210 E. Pine Street, Covington.

The family suggests that memorial donations be made to Area 18 Special Olympics, P. O. Box 122, Covington, VA 24426.
