Rockbridge School Secretary Was Trinity Methodist Church Member, SJH And RARA Volunteer

Helen Smith Cochrane, 91, passed away Monday, March 9, 2015 at Havenwood in Lexington, Virginia.

She was born in Lexington on May 1, 1923, the youngest daughter of the late Oscar L. Smith and Nannie Belle McCullough of Lexington.

She was predeceased by her husband, Ira H. "Bud" Cochrane Jr., her brothers, Joseph M. Smith and Oscar L. Smith Jr., and her sister, Gladys S. Whitmore.

Mrs. Cochrane is survived by her daughter, Janet of Cloverdale; her son, Mickey of Lexington and his fiancee Lisa Ruggerio; her brother, John F. Smith of Orlando, Fla.; two nieces; and two nephews.

Mrs. Cochrane was a school secretary at Central Elementary School in Rockbridge County for 25 years. She was a member of Trinity Methodist Church and the Albertina Ravenhorst Circle. She was also a member of VFW Post 1299 Auxiliary of Lexington and the Rockbridge Retired Teachers' Association. Mrs. Cochrane volunteered as a "Pink Lady" at Stonewall Jackson Hospital and the RARA Food Pantry in Lexington.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 12, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Harrison Funeral Chapel with the Rev. George Warden Jr. officiating. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to Rockbridge Area Hospice, P. O. Box 948, Lexington, VA 24450 or VFW Post #1299 Auxiliary, 105 Memorial Lane, Lexington, VA 24450, would be appreciated.

Family night will be Wednesday, March 11, 2015 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory, Lexington.
