Alice Doss Lair, 93, died Thursday morning, March 12, 2015, at the Woodlands Nursing Center in Clifton Forge, Virginia.

Mrs. Lair was born October 22, 1921 in Alleghany County, a daughter of the late Harry and Ruth Burks Doss.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Earleen Doss, and her husband, Thomas David Lair in 1999; three sons, Buddy Unroe, Wayne Unroe and Eddie Unroe; a son-in-law, Wilbur Persinger, and a daughter-in-law, Dot Unroe.

Alice was a charter member of Mallow Presbyterian Church and of Circle #3. She was a longtime member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy.

Surviving are her daughter, Ruth "Sandy" Persinger of Covington; two daughters-in-law, Tana Unroe and Mary Unroe; ten grandchildren, Eddie and Charolette Unroe, Carol Mendoza, Shelly Weikle, Stanley and Diana Unroe, Tabatha and Phillip Light, David Wayne Unroe and Nicole, Mark and Ceri Unroe, Hope and Mark Palmer, Brendan Unroe, and Jennifer and Patrick Markham; 24 great grandchildren and 9 great great grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Arritt Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary Marshall officiating.

The family will receive their friends for one hour prior to the funeral on Sunday at Arritt Funeral Home.

Interment will be made in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be her grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be Frank Persinger, George Persinger, Melvin Persinger, and Billy Powell.
