Ruth Irene Sweet, 85, formerly of Lexington, Virginia, passed away peacefully at her home in Glade Hill, Va. surrounded by her family on Tuesday, June 16, 2015.

Born November 1, 1929 in Lexington, she was a daughter of the late William Lytle Irvine and Lilly Myrtle Swisher Irvine.

Mrs. Sweet was the last surviving member of her immediate family and was a member of the Redwood Methodist Church.

Surviving are her husband, James Edward Sweet, of Glade Hill, Va.; three children, Cindy Bower and husband, Dale, of Glade Hill, Va.; Tony Sweet and wife, Vicky, of Roanoke, Va.; Donna Thomas and husband, Ricky, of Fla.; four grandchildren, Joey and Sarah Preston; Dylan and Emma Thomas.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. John Boone, Mrs. Sweet's caregivers, and the Carilion Clinic Hospice for the wonderful care given to her during her illness.

A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday, June 19, 2015 at Rockbridge Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Rick Poland officiating. The family will receive friends 11 a.m. to noon Friday, June 19, 2015 at the Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory, Lexington, VA.
