Obituary for Dorothy Beatrix Montgomery Dorothy Beatrix Montgomery
78 Year-Old Teacher, School Administrator, Dies In Riviera Beach, Florida

Dorothy Beatrix Montgomery, age 78, of Riviera Beach, Florida, died peacefully at Trustbridge Hospice, Good Samaritan Hospital, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Ms. Montgomery was a proud member of Alpha-Sigma-Tau, graduating from Concord College with a B. S. in Education, and earning a Masters of Education from Florida Atlantic University.

She dedicated her life to the education and advancement of children, first as a teacher, then as a school counselor, and finally as a School Board Administrator.

She was an active member of the Panhellenic Alumnae of Palm Beach County, helping to raise tens of thousands of dollars in scholarship funds over the years.

Among the many diplomas, certificates of achievement, affirmations of excellence, and plaques of appreciation gracing her walls is a framed print that reads, "This, I believe: We are not trying to save the world. We are trying to save the children. Maybe they will save the world."

Her leisure time was spent rooting for the West Virginia Mountaineers football team, playing canasta, and taking trips to the casinos - the louder and flashier the slot machine, the better!

Over the course of her life, she traveled extensively all over the USA, including Alaska and Hawaii.

She was an active member of Oceanview United Methodist Church in Juno Beach, FL.

A fuller, more exciting life could not have been had.

Ms. Montgomery was preceded in death by her parents, Clayton and Daisy Montgomery of Hinton, WV, her sister, Wanda White of Florida, her brothers, Clayton, Jr. of New York, John David of Ohio, and Lewis Ivan of Maryland.

She leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews as well as many friends and her cherished pup, Sugar, all of whom loved her dearly.

Per Dorothy's wish there will be no service in Florida.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2015 at 11:00 a.m in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Pastor Verlin Butcher officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Clifton Forge.

The family will receive friends on Saturday morning from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at Nicely Funeral Home.
