Covington Resident Was Owner, Operator Of The Hot Dog House Restaurant

Mr. James Michael (Jim) Lawson, age 66, of Covington, Virginia, died Wednesday, July 1, 2015, at LewisGale Hospital-Alleghany, Low Moor.

He was the husband of Cathy Lawson.

Mr. Lawson was born October 20, 1948 in Beckley, WV, the son of the late Ernest T. Lawson, Jr. and Athleen Abshire Lawson.

A longtime member of this community, Jim was the owner and operator of The Hot Dog House restaurant.

He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, where he served his church as a trustee.

Mr. Lawson was a member of the U.S. Navy Reserves as well as a member of the Army National Guard.

Jim enjoyed traveling to Myrtle Beach on vacation and loved all animals especially his horses and his dogs. A true people person, he would do anything for anyone, especially his friends and his customers. Most of all, he loved his family.

In addition to his wife, Cathy, Mr. Lawson is survived by one son, Jamie Lawson of Covington; two daughters, Linda Boone and husband, Moss of Dublin and Carrie Webb of Covington; six grandchildren, Michael Oyler, Skylor Boone, Cole Boone, Madison Lawson, Samantha Lawson and Gracie Webb; a brother, Ernest T. "Sonny" Lawson and wife, Sandy of Summersville, WV; a stepsister, Frances Bennett, and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, Ernest T. Lawson, Jr. and Athleen Abshire Lawson, Mr. Lawson was preceded in death by a sister, Linda Jo Lawson; an infant granddaughter, Lindsey Lawson; and a special dog, Lucy.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 4, 2015, from the chapel of Loving Funeral Home with Rev. Dean Bowser officiating. Interment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be family and friends attending the service. The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at Loving Funeral Home.
