Former Bath County Commissioner Of The Revenue Dies At Age 80

Betty Louise Simmons Hodge, age 80, of The Golden Living Center, Clifton Forge, Virginia, and formerly of 63 Klondike Drive, Warm Springs, died Sunday, July 5, 2015 at The Golden Living Center.

She was born June 30, 1935 in Highland County, Virginia, to the late Charles and Elizabeth Hamilton Simmons.

For over forty years, she was Commissioner of the Revenue for Bath County, but was known throughout Bath County as a beloved babysitter at The Homestead Resort, and was a member of Eden United Methodist Church in Hot Springs, the Star Bolar Ruritan Club, and the Rebekah Assembly of Virginia I.O.O.F. (Past President 2004).

She loved animals and cooking for others.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Henry Hodge and three sisters, Edna Mae Booth, Faye Cleek, and Virginia Neff.

She is survived by two sons, Mike Hodge of Warm Springs and Steven Hodge of Roanoke; two sisters, Mary Ruth Rexrode of Buffalo Gap and Nancy Hatcher; a brother, Wayne Simmons of Staunton; a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews; and her many friends at The Golden Living Center, including special friend and caregiver, Cherie Pritt of Covington.

In keeping with her wishes, her body has been cremated. There will be no services at this time.

The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to Mountain Regional Hospice, P. O. Box 637, Clifton Forge, VA 24422.

The Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, is in charge of arrangements.
