Well-Known Local Sheriff's Deputy Was U. S. Army Military Police Veteran, Iron Gate Baptist Church Member

Walter Girard (Waffle) Nicely, Jr., age 49, of 60 Alleghany Street, Clifton Forge, Virginia, died Monday, September 28, 2015 at the Lewis Gale Medical Center in Salem.

Walter was born January 4, 1966 in Clifton Forge to the late Walter Girard Nicely, Sr. and Gloria K. Reynolds Gibson.

He was a graduate of Alleghany High School and served with the United States Army in the Military Police from 1984 to 1988. He was a serving Captain and Patrol Commander of the Alleghany County Sheriff Office, attended Iron Gate Baptist Church, and was a member of the Virginia Sheriffs' Association, as well as the Clifton Forge Little League Association.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step father, Bernie Gibson, Sr.

He is survived by his wife, Amanda B. Nicely; three daughters, Crystal Marie Nicely, Shea-Lyn Nicole Newcomb, and Larra Michelle Newcomb, and two sons, Christopher Girard Nicely and Benjamin Andrew Nicely and fiancee, Misty May, all of Clifton Forge; his step mother, Josephine Reynolds Nicely; two sisters, Christine Burch and husband, Harold and Nicole Nicely, both of Clifton Forge; a brother, Casey Gibson and wife, Kim of Covington; a grandson, Cody May; a number of nieces and nephews; and many special and close friends.

A funeral service will be held on Friday at 11:00 p.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, with Reverend Hunter Hale officiating.

Interment will follow in Central Advent Christian Cemetery, Clifton Forge.

Pallbearers will be Rickie Walton, Travis Mullins, Jeremy Curtis, Roger Dawson, Brandon Campbell and Scott Fischer.

The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Nicely Funeral Home.
