Millboro Resident Was Self-Employed Artist

Jeanne Rabe (Bun) Shepherd, 82, of Sidling Hill Farm, 1511 Mill Creek Road, Millboro, Virginia, died Monday, September 28, 2015 in Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke.

She was born in Oklahoma on October 30, 1932, a daughter of the late Arthur John Rabe and Vesta Pearl Bethel Rabe.

She was a self-employed artist throughout her life and a member of various art clubs and associations.

Mrs. Shepherd taught art in Bath County and maintained her own art studio, and taught art at Randolph Macon College.

She is survived by a daughter, Holly Stewart of Texas; a sister, Pamela Faye Taylor of Huntington, West Virginia; a brother, William Frank Rabe of Lynchburg; a grandson, Henry of California; and a number of nieces and nephews.

She is also survived by special caregivers who she considered family, Frances, Luther and Bing Wolfe, Libby Campbell, Tiffany Mailhot, Meagan Taylor, Renee Ingram and very close friend, Joe Grimm.

She was preceded in death her husband J. Frank Shepherd; a daughter, Shelly Shepherd; and granddaughter, Jeanne.

A memorial service will be conducted Saturday, October 3, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. from the Sidling Hill Farm, Mill Creek Road, Millboro, with Pastor Zack Royer officiating. The family and special friends will receive friends following the service at the farm.

The family and special friends suggest memorial tributes take the form of contributions to the Millboro Area Rescue Squad, M.A.R.S., at P. O. Box 295, Millboro, Virginia 24460.

Arrangements are being handled by Nicely Funeral Home in Clifton Forge.
