Obituary for James Leonard Pope Hunt James Leonard Pope Hunt
Rockbridge County Native Was First Baptist Church Member, Vietnam Veteran

James Leonard Pope Hunt, 72, of Natural Bridge Station, Virginia, peacefully closed his eyes to the great Almighty Saturday, December 12, 2015 at his home.

Born September 20, 1943 in Rockbridge County, he was a son of the late Leonard Pope Hunt and Hattie Dixon Hunt.

James was a member of the First Baptist Church of Natural Bridge, and attended Lylburn Downing High School.

Leonard was a decorated Vietnam veteran, who served two tours. After the army, he worked at the Natural Bridge of Va. Later he worked at Burlington in Glasgow, until he retired after 30 years of service.

James retired and became a farmer raising cows and horses, which were cared for like family. He also enjoyed sharpening knives and cleaning his guns.

Surviving are his cows and one horse Goldie; three brothers, Carl Hunt and wife, Evelyn of Accokeek Md., Leon and wife, Brenda of Natural Bridge and Curtis of Lexington; one sister, Joyce Lee of Natural Bridge; five uncles, Mike, Paul, and Guy Hunt; Cecil and Everett Dixon; nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

A special thanks to the Pick Cadillac and Dialysis staff and employees.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m., Friday, December 18, 2015 at Harrison Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Ryan Hubbard officiating. Burial will follow at Diamond Family Cemetery.

The family will receive friends 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, December 17, 2015.
