James Edward Sweet, 86, of Glade Hill, Virginia, formerly of Lexington, passed away peacefully at his home in Glade Hill, surrounded by his family on Sunday, December 13, 2015.

Born November 25, 1929 in Lexington, he was a son of the late Andrew Lee Sweet and Emma Rowe Sweet.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Irvine Sweet.

Mr. Sweet was the last surviving member of his immediate family, and was a member of the Redwood Methodist Church.

James retired from Greyhound Bus Lines as a driver after twenty two years of service.

Surviving are three children, Cindy Bower and husband, Dale of Glade Hill, Tony Sweet and wife, Vicky of Roanoke, Donna Thomas and husband, Ricky of Fla.; four grandchildren, Joey and Sarah Preston, Dylan and Emma Thomas.

A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 16, 2015 at Rockbridge Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Rick Poland officiating. The family will receive friends 11 to noon Wednesday, December 16, 2015 at the Harrison Funeral Home and Crematory, Lexington.
