Rockbridge Baths Resident Dies At Age 92

Lula Newcomer Riley, 92, of Rockbridge Baths, Virginia, died peacefully Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at Carilion Stonewall Jackson Hospital.

Born December 11, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Samuel J. Newcomer and Annie Gaylor Newcomer.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Lewis G. Riley.

Surviving are three children, Harry L. Riley and wife, Judith of Rockbridge County, Nancy Lockridge and husband, James F. of Battle Mountain, Nev., and Sandra Wadsworth and husband, Valon of Brandywine, Md.

She is also survived by five grandchildren, Vicki, Rebecca, Corinna, Stephanie, and Charles, and five great grandchildren.

Last surviving member of her immediate family, shewas predeceased by seven brothers and four sisters.

A lifelong member of Bethesda Presbyterian Church, she loved singing in the choir, and loved her many friends and neighbors, and her many caregivers at Havenwood Assisted Living.

A funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, January 9, 2016 at the Bethesda Presbyterian Church with the Rev Christina Tutterow and Pastor Tony Nix officiating.

Burial will follow at Ebenezer United Methodist Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Rockbridge Baths Volunteer Fire Department, 5024 Maury River Road, Rockbridge Baths, VA 24473.

The family will receive friends 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, January 8, 2016 at Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory, Lexington, VA.
