Mont Ray Anderson, 78, of 815 W. Jackson St., Covington, Virginia, died Saturday January 23, 2016 at his residence.

Mr. Anderson was born May 20, 1937 at Oriskany in Craig County, the son of the late Max William Anderson and Ruth Bowers Anderson.

He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Charles "Corky" Anderson and Boyd "Bo" Anderson and one sister, Arlene "Sis" Anderson.

Ray retired from MeadWestvaco in 2000 after 40 years of service as an electrician.

He was a member of Grace Brethren Church, where he served as trustee of the church, and served 25 years in the National Guard of Virginia.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Jewell Kemper Anderson; one daughter, Robin Craig of Salem; one granddaughter, Raven Craig of Salem; two brothers, Lenwood "Sardy" Anderson and wife, Judy and Ralph Lewis "Pie" Anderson, both of Covington; and a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The funeral service will be held Thursday at 11:00 a.m. in the Grace Brethren Church with the Rev. Dan Gillette officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Arritt Funeral Home. The interment will follow at Alleghany Memorial Park.
