Alleghany County Native Was Self-Employed Carpenter

Harold Edward Fridley, age 78, of 217 E. Holly Street, Covington, Virginia, died Saturday, February 20, 2016 at Kings Daughters Community Health and Rehabilitation, in Staunton.

He was born March 14, 1937 in Alleghany County to the late Connie Fridley, Sr. and Drewry Bayne Fridley.

He was a self-employed carpenter who loved hunting, fishing and NASCAR, closely following the racing career of Jeff Gordon.

He was affectionately known to his grandchildren as "PawPaw".

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia "Patty" Burr Fridley; three sisters, Glenna Barnett, Muriel Webb, and Emma Rose; and two brothers, Connie Fridley, Jr. and Clinton Fridley, Sr.

He is survived by two daughters, Marsha Puckett and husband, Doug of Staunton, and Karen Fox of Covington; two sisters, Shirley Fridley of Covington and Helen Rawling of Montvale; a brother, Malvin Fridley and wife, Bonnie of Glen Wilton; a brother-in-law, Linwood "Buck" Barnett of Covington; four grandchildren, Erin Snell and husband, Ray, Joshua Mayo, Faron Brown, and Kristopher Byrd; three great grandchildren, Katie Snell, Ruby Snell and Bentley Byrd; a number of nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Lloyd Lewis.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 26, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, with Reverend Bill Hartsfield officiating. Interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park, Low Moor.

The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Nicely Funeral Home, and other times at the residence, 547 Brentwood Drive, Covington.

The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to the Alzheimer's Association, Central & Western Virginia Chapter, P. O. Box 4634, Charlottesville, VA 22905.
