Obituary for Jennie Landes Chittum Jennie Landes Chittum
Alleghany County Native Was Former Jane Colby, Kroger Employee

Mrs. Jennie Landes Chittum, age 83, of Covington, Virginia, died Tuesday, March 15, 2016, at the Brian Center-Alleghany, Low Moor.

She was the wife of the late Raymond Odell Chittum.

Mrs. Chittum was born April 29, 1932 in Alleghany County, a daughter of the late Everette Franklin Landes and Nellie Nicely Landes.

During her working career, she was employed by the former Jane Colby and by the Kroger Deli.

Jennie was a member of Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church, as well as the Ladies Circle at the church. She was also a member of the Red Hats Society.

Mrs. Chittum is survived by two stepdaughters, Barbara Chittum Poff of Roanoke and Marjorie Chittum Huie of Fredericksburg; and nieces and nephews, Kyle Keyser, Teresa Taylor, Jack Keyser and wife, Linda, Linda Bowling, Carole Irvine and Jimmy Landes.

In addition to her parents, Everette Franklin and Nellie Nicely Landes, and her husband, Raymond Odell Chittum, Mrs. Chittum was preceded in death by two brothers, James Franklin "Bud" Landes and Everette Franklin "Pete" Landes, Jr. and one sister, Jane Landes "Tootie" Keyser.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 18, 2016, at Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church with Rev. Doug Hollenbeck officiating. Interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends on Friday afternoon from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the church and at other times at the residence of Kyle Keyser, 629 Princeton Drive, Covington.

The family suggests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions to Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church, 1200 N. Alleghany Avenue, Covington, VA 24426 or the Alleghany Humane Society, P. O. Box 60, Low Moor, VA.24457.
