He was 91.

He was born on September 23, 1924 in Clifton Forge, Virginia.

Having professed his love for Christ at an early age, he was baptized at the Main Street Baptist Church. He formerly served on the Deacon Board, Trustee Board, Minute Men's Club, and the Usher Board.

He attended the former Jefferson School and was proud to serve his country with the United States Army during World War II, where he was an expert rifleman receiving an honorable discharge.

Jack retired in November 1985 from CSX Transportation as a Dieselhouse Locomotive Shop Clerk with thirty-nine years of service, which began as a Porter Cleaner and Crew Caller, and he was a member of the Brotherhood of Railway Clerks, and a former Mason.

Until his health failed, he loved to fish and hunt.

Jack married the love of his life, Geraldine Overton, on July 4, 1950, who survives him. To this union, three children were born, Lenford C. Hatcher and wife, Shelagh of Lynchburg, Benay Hatcher of Waynesboro, and Timothy Hatcher of Charlotte, NC. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Wesley and Kenzi, and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers and five sisters.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 7, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Reverend W. Pembroke Hall officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Clifton Forge.

The family will receive friends on Thursday afternoon from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service at Nicely Funeral Home.
